Jitiya or Jivatputrika Vrat is one of the popular festivals of Bihar observed in September-October. This year Jitiya festivals celebrate on 27 September 2013.
It is observed on eighth day in Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month in North Indian Hindi Calendar. Jitiya Festival is observed by mothers for wellness of their Sons. They keep fast throughout the day. Jivatputrika puja is a Nirjala Vrat as the devotees observe very strict fast and they abstain even from water. Jitiya is commenced for three days.
The first day, the day before Jivatputrika, is known as ‘Nahai-Kai. On that day women take the first morsel only after having their bath.
The Second day of Jivatputrika is dedicated to fast and the day is known as Khur Jitiya.
The third day is for Paaran. Devotees confirm the exact Paaran time from local Pandits or Brahmins.
