There are three supreme gods Brahma, the creator, lord Vishnu, the preserver, and lord Shiva, the destroyer, known as “the Hindu trinity.” And without them is world could not be created and maintained.

As we all know, Lord Brahma is not worshipped as lord Vishnu and Shiva do. And there are very few temples of Lord Brahma in India. It is not a co-incidence, but there is a mythological story behind this?

According to a Shiva Puran, one day Brahma and Vishnu both are arguing about which of them are more powerful. That time one great blazing pillar appeared whose roots and branches were extended beyond the view both into the earth and sky. Thus, Vishnu and Brahma approached a huge Shiva linga and set out to find its beginning and end. Lord Vishnu was appointed to seek the end and Lord Brahma the beginning. Brahma took the form of swan and flew up to find the top of the pillar, while Vishnu turned into a boar and dug into the earth to look for its roots. However, neither could find its appointed designation. Lord Vishnu satisfied and came up to Shiva and bowed down to him. But Brahma did not give up and when he was going up, where he saw a ketaki flower, dear to Shiva. Lord Brahma forced the flower to become a false witness about Brahma, s discovery of Shiva’s beginning. But Shiva knows everything, he was angered by the former’s ego. And Shiva cursed him that no being in the three worlds will worship him.

That is why there are very few temples in India like Pushkar temple in Rajasthan and one in Kerala.
