In order to reduce the use of plastic bags now the temples are also coming forward to do their bit for the environment. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Trust (TTDT) has banned the use of plastic bags inside the temple. Very soon the Prasadam will be distributed in bio-degradable bags. For this the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Trust has signed a deal with Greendiamz Biotech Ltd. Greendiamz will be supplying 25 lakh bags, made from its proprietary “TrueGreen†bio-degradable film, every month. These will be used in the packaging of ladoos to be given as ‘prasadam’ to the devotees
These bags which will be made of 30-micron thick material and it does not get affected by ghee, oil or moisture. It gets decomposed in 180 days after coming in contact with soil. More than 50,000 devotees visit the Tirupati Balaji Temple daily and on weekends the number crosses a lakh. The usage of these bags will make a huge impact to reduce the use of plastic bags. The ban on the use of plastic bags in the temple premises has been taken in order to show solidarity towards making the holy abode environmentally sustainable.
