Sawan Somwar means all the Mondays of the Shravan month. According to Hindus each Lord has got a day dedicated to himself/herself.Monday is the day of Lord Shiva. Each Monday of this month, known as Shravan Somvar, is a special day in Shiv temples. Devotees pile the linga high with Bel leaves and flowers and fast till sunset. It is believed that the worship of Shiva during Shrawan month is 108 times more powerful than worshipping during normal days. Some devotees read the Shiva Purana on these days. Some people have Shivling at home so they do abhishek with water, honey or milk. Devotees who observe fast chant Maha Mritunjaya Mantra or Om Namah Shivaya on the day. It must be noted that Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva and there are devout Hindus who observe vrat on all Mondays in a year. It is believed that those who observe Somwar vrat will have their desires fulfilled and will be blessed with wisdom.
