STANDING KANWAR - Standing Kanwar is the one in which the person need not run continuously, the only condition is that until it reaches its destination the Gangajal has to be carried on shoulders, even if the person carrying it is only standing and not walking.
HANGING KANWAR - This type of Kanwar also does not require running continuously. It can be placed on a stand while the owner rests or takes bath.
SITTING KANWAR - A sitting kanwar is the one which can be placed on floor while the owner is on rest. The is suppose to be the easiest one.
DAAK KANWAR - A Daak Kanwar has to keep running like an athlete carrying the Olympic torch. Daak means Mail, so the Kanwariaas carrying Daak Kanwar has to complete the yatra running all the way. These runners cover the journey in a specified period. They complete their yatra running all the way back. These Kawariaas, normally travel in a group as they have to complete the journey within a specified period, 28 hours or 56 hours, depending on the distance of their destination. But, as in a relay race, each phase of the journey is covered by a different Kawariaa from the same group. While one of them runs with the pot filled with water, the others follow him in a vehicle and take over from him after a fixed time. They keep running like an athlete carrying the Olympic torch. If someone gets sick or too tired on the way that person is free to break his journey and give his Kanwar to another one from his group.
