As the name suggests, Hariyali Teej relates to greenery. The festival is dedicated for women. On this day, many women wear green colored clothes and green bangles. This day heralds the start of the monsoon season as a symbol of happiness, prosperity and love. Haryali Teej is mainly related to greenery and a good harvest, and women and children wear green clothes. It is also known as "Singhara Teej". One day before Hariyali Teej, women celebrate 'Singhara'. It is a significant day for newly wedded brides. On her first ‘Singhara’ after marriage, the newly wedded brides receive clothes and ornaments from their mother-in-laws. On Hariyali Teej, women gather to worship moon. Women both married and unmarried enjoy the festive spirit by swinging on adorned swings singing songs relating to the month of Sawan.
Festival of Teej is dedicated to Goddess Parvati. The festival's theme is the devotion of women towards their husbands or to-be-husbands. Married and unmarried women adorn themselves to their best and pray for long life of their husband
Various delicious food items are cooked which is relished by all in the family. A favourite during the Teej Festival is Ghevar, a crunchy orange honeycomb made from cheese.
