Hartalika Teej Pooja is an important ritual done in order to worship Goddess Parvati. Women’s celebrate this teej on the third day of first fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada. Married women keep fast on this Pooja for the well-being of their husbands and unmarried girls keep fast on this Pooja in order to get blessed with good husband like Lord Shiva. This year Hartalika Teej will be celebrated on 8th September 2013.
Pooja-Vidhi
On the day of Hartalika Teej women should get up early in the morning and wear new saris, jewelry and visit the temples without even taking a single drop of water. After returning from the temple husband’s feet are being touched to get his blessings. Before the sunset again the bath is being taken and is dressed in the outfit of bride. After getting dressed place the idols of Devi Parvati and Lord Shiva in the Pooja room and the Gaur besides their idols. The Gaur can also be made from the combination of Sand and Clay. After arranging all the Pooja items meditation is being done to call Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva in the house. Offerings of Bilva-Patra, flowers, rice coated in Turmeric Powder is done to Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva and Gaur. At the end, read the Vrat Katha to get blessings of Goddess Parvati and don’t offer the Prasad to anyone on that day. Next Day again wakes up early and take bath and wear new clothes to do Pooja. After all the Pooja break the fast by eating red chana which was soaked in water overnight.

Hartalika Teej Pooja is the significance how Goddess Parvati showed her love to God Shiva. After the death of Sati, Lord Shiva started disregarding everyone and he didn’t even noticed the love that Parvati had for him. Seeing the ignorance of lord Shiva, Parvati started keeping fasts for him to seek attention of Shiva. For the love and affection which Parvati had for Shiva made Goddess Parvati to take rebirth for 108 times. This dedication of Parvati made Lord Shiva to accept her as his wife.
