Sadguru Saibaba is very well known as a real guru who taught us that there is only one God and transcended the barriers of religions, and showed a great gesture to bring together Hindu and Muslim as his followers. Today, we believe in his power as well as his teachings. We have seen movies on Saibaba, that how he showered his blessings on his devotees. Saibaba is a God, a teacher/Guru, and he always blesses and grants happiness to his devotees. Udi was granted by Saibaba as prasad to all his devotees. It has the power to heal any incurable disease, it has a magic that bring happiness in your life.

As the life of baba is in a mystery box but still it is believed that sometime in the year 1858, at the age of 16 years Saibaba arrived at the village of Shirdi.  His real name, birthplace and date of birth are not known. The name "Sai" was given to him upon his arrival at Shirdi, by Mahalsapathi, a devotee of Kandoba Bhagwan at the temple stairs where he first saw him. He always uttered "Allah Malik" ("God is King") and “Sabka Malik Ek” (There is only one God). He gave the name ´Dwarkamayi´ to the mosque and for the entire 60 year period Sai Baba lived there he kept a sacred fire (Dhuni) burning all day, all night. He never let the Dhuni extinguish during his lifetime and his followers used to contribute fuel and match boxes to help him keep the Dhuni alive. Sai Baba used to sit by the side of his "Dhuni" and look at it while being deeply absorbed in thoughts. He used to distribute the 'Udi' the sacred ash of his Dhuni, to all who come to Him, as his blessings.

Sai Baba has a place of Guru, and always teaches their followers. Thus the significance of just fire ashes Udi is needed to be Understand. Baba taught by his Udi that all the visible phenomena in the universe are as transient as the ash. Human body is composed of wood and five elements, will fall down, after all their enjoyments are over, and be reduced to ashes. In order to realize the devotees about the fact of reducing of these bodies into ashes, Baba distributed Udi to them. At that time it was found and still believed that the Udi cured many physical and mental diseases, but baba wanted to teach that the difference between real and unreal. Baba asked for and took Dakshina, and while the devotees took leave, He gave Udi as Prasad, besmeared some of it on the Bhaktas' foreheads and placed His boon-conferring hand on their heads.

Udi had also its material significance. It conferred health, prosperity, freedom from anxiety, and many other worldly gains. So the Udi has helped us to gain both our ends - material as well as spiritual. Let’s share an interesting story during the time when Saibaba lived in Shridi and how the simple ashes of fire were believed to be the magical medicine?

How Scorpion-Sting could be cured by Udi?

Narayan Motiram Jani of Nasik was a devotee of Baba. He was serving under another devotee of Baba, by name Ramachandra Vaman Modak. Once he went to Shirdi with his mother and saw Baba. Then Baba Himself told her that he (her son) should serve no more, but start independent business. Some days after, this prophecy turned true. Narayan Jani left service and started a boarding house 'Anandashram' which thrived well. Once, a friend of this Narayan rao was stung by a scorpion and the pain caused by it, was servere and unbearable. Udi is most efficacious in such cases; it is to be applied on the seat of pain, and so Narayan rao searched for it, but found none. Then he stood before Baba's picture and invoked Baba's aid, chanted Baba's name and taking out a pinch of the ashes of the joss-stick burning in front of Baba's picture and thinking it to be Baba's Udi, applied it on the seat of pain and the sting. As soon as he took out his fingers, the pain vanished and both the person were moved and felt delighted.
